Medan – City Tour (L,D)
Upon arrival at Medan’s Kualanamu International Airport, you will meet our guide to proceed to Medan city. Arriving in the city, we will start with a short city tour. There is plenty of time to cruise this busy, regional trading powerhouse of a city, and enjoy some of its highlights. We will stop at the Sultan’s Palace, which is now a museum that tells about its former days when feudal lords ruled the ancient kingdoms of Indonesia. A bit further down the same road is Masjid Raya Medan, one of the largest mosques in Sumatra. The mosque, which was built with an elegant pre-war Moroccan style, overlooks one of the busiest intersections in the city. Numerous Chinese temples alluded to the prominent Chinese-Indonesians, the driving force behind most of the city’s commerce. There are a few fine examples of our preindependence colonial architecture, bordering the wide lanes of Medan Merdeka, the city square right in the heart of town. While the city hall, the railway station, and the post office, all were built during the Dutch times, are still in excellent condition.
En-route stops at : Maimun Palace (The Maimun Palace was built by the Sultan of Deli in 1888. Inside the palace, you will be able to admire the remnants of the sultanate). Grand Mosque (built in 1906 in Moroccan style, the mosque was designed by a Dutch architect. Its marbles was imported from Italy; the chandelier came from Amsterdam, and the stained-glasses were from China. The ground contains the
tombs of the sultans). Museum of North Sumatra (the Museum of North Sumatra has an extensive collection of artifacts covering the North Sumatran history and culture). Crocodile Farm (Situated at the outskirts of Medan city, this crocodile farm is found at the village of Asam Kumbang where over 3000 infants to old crocodiles are found at their natural ponds). Tjong A Fie Mansion (located at Jalan Jenderal Ahmad Yani, this Chinese-style ancient house was formerly a house of the richest Chinese man in Medan, Mr. Tjong A Fie, who played big role in the development of the Medan town. You may observe all the available furniture as well as room by room). Dinner included at hotel.
