Medan – Brastagi (L,D)
Upon arrival at Medan’s Kualanamu International Airport, you will meet our guide to proceed to Medan city. Arriving in the city, we will start with a short city tour. There is plenty of time to cruise this busy, regional trading powerhouse of a city, and enjoy some of its highlights. We will stop at the Sultan’s Palace, which is now a museum that tells about its former days when feudal lords ruled the ancient kingdoms of Indonesia. A bit further down the same road is Masjid Raya Medan, one of the largest mosques in Sumatra. The mosque, which was built with an elegant pre-war Moroccan style, overlooks one of the busiest intersections in the city. Numerous Chinese temples alluded to the prominent Chinese-Indonesians, the driving force behind most of the city’s commerce. There are a few fine examples of our pre-independence colonial architecture, bordering the wide lanes of Medan Merdeka, the city square right in the heart of town. While the city hall, the railway station, and the post office, all were built during the Dutch times, are still in excellent condition. Lunch will be served at local restaurant. Today’s trip will lead you through the Karo-Batak Highlands of Brastagi. These highlands are a volcanic plateau, stretching around 5.000 square kilometers from the northern rim of Lake Toba. It is also a home for 200 Karo-Batak tribe, with Brastagi and Kabanjahe as the most important ones. You will visit one of these traditional villages en route. Karo-Batak people are famous for re-burying their deceased ones. They used to live in remarkable longhouses, a traditional house that are now rare & preserved. There are countless spots of great natural beauty in this region. In addition, Brastagi has a pleasant market with many different kinds of exotic Indonesian fruits available. Dinner will be served at hotel.
