Bank Indonesia (BI) and International Monetary Fund (IMF) raise different achievements of Indonesia and other ASEAN countries in economy, primarily in economic growth, economic diversification, and poverty alleviation. It is discussed in a High Level Conference titled New Growth Models in a Changing Global Landscape jointly organized by BI and IMF, today (27/02), in Jakarta. Officials attending this conference among others are Governor of BI, Agus D.W. Martowardojo and Members of the Board of Governors, Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, and Managing Director of IMF, Christine Lagarde.
In her speech, the Managing Director of IMF conveys different positive achievements made by Indonesia in the last few years, among others in economy and social sectors. From regional aspect, ASEAN countries are considered to have good economic resilience and may serve as an example for other countries, among others in the implementation of inclusive economy growth. However, Lagarde also reminds us that amidst the improving economic growth in ASEAN, now is the best time to fix the national economy from monetary, macroeconomic, and infrastructure aspects.In the discussion session, this high level conference also talks about the adjustment to the policy frameworks of countries in facing the latest macroeconomic and structural condition, and developing growth strategies to build economic resilience amidst the changing global economy. With the presence of competent international speakers, this conference also discusses the experience of various countries in preparing themselves to face the global trend in the future. It is expected that the discussion may give benefits and insights for all participants, who come from economic institutions and are economic practitioners from Indonesia and other countries. In addition to the discussion, the activity also displays the natural and cultural richness of Indonesia through exhibition of crafts by Indonesian MSMEs.
This conference is also part of the Voyage to Indonesia, which is a series of activities to promote Indonesia approaching the Annual Meeting of IMF-World Bank Group (IMF-WBG AM) 2018 in Nusa Dua, Bali. IMF-WBG AM 2018 is estimated to bring around 15,000 visitors to Indonesia, who are economic experts and practitioners, organizations, and international mass media.In his speech, the Governor of Bank Indonesia conveys the readiness of Indonesia to host IMF-WBG AM 2018. IMF-WBG AM 2018 is expected to give experience for all participants, not only pertaining to the latest discussion topics, but also to give an unforgettable experience from viewing the diverse natural and cultural richness of Indonesia. With favourable acceptance and enthusiasm of international visitors, Indonesia is one step closer to successful implementation of AM 2018 and able to establish good international reputation of Indonesia.
